A Triple Challenge for 2014 (Mentioned in Today's Sermon)

Posted in Bible, Discipleship, Prayer, Presence of God, Sanctification, Sermons

In today's sermon I mentioned a triple challenge to grow in your knowledge of God and to help you "seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness." Here is what I said:

  1. Read the Bible by the end 2014. A hint on getting through it is to skip Leviticus and Numbers. If you get motivated at the end, go back and read them. Too many people fade in these early books, but there's no reason you can't skip ahead to Deuteronomy (or even Joshua if you want).
  2. Read a book about God. We mentioned several: A.W. Tozer, The Knowledge of the Holy; R.C. Sproul, The Holiness of God; Jerry Bridges, The Joy of Fearing God; Wayne Grudem, Christian Beliefs: 20 Basics Every Christian Should Know.
  3. Pray for 7 minutes a day. After a few weeks, take it up to 10 minutes. It's better to start slow and be consistent than to get overly-ambitious and fade out after a day or two.
