Meet Our Elders

The ascended Christ has given gift ministries to the church (including apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers) for the equipping of Christ's body that it might mature and grow. Through the gift ministries, all members of the Church are to be nurtured and equipped for the work of ministry. 

  • Daniel Baker

    Daniel Baker

    Senior Pastor

    Daniel has been a member of the church since he and his wife Anne moved to North Carolina in 1998. He has been on staff since 2000, after attending the Sovereign Grace Pastors College, and became Senior Pastor in 2016. He graduated in 1994 from Kenyon College with a B.A. in Music, after which he served as a pastoral intern in Ohio while completing an M.A. from Ashland Theological Seminary. He and Anne have five children.

    Pastor

    Phil graduated from The Ohio State University in 1972 with a B.S. degree in Pharmacy. Before moving to North Carolina in 1989, he served in pastoral ministry in Ohio for 13 years.

    Phil has been a member of the church since its inception in 1992 and on staff since 1994. He was the senior pastor from 2001 through 2015 and teaches regularly at the Sovereign Grace Ministries Pastors College. He and his wife, Cassie, have five children and eighteen grandchildren.

  • Jim Martin

    Jim Martin

    Pastor

    Jim serves as a bi-vocational elder while working as a sales administration manager for Entera Health, Inc. He oversees our parent-teen and family life ministries, and occasionally preaches. He graduated in 1991 from The State University of New York at Geneseo, after which he worked for over ten years in the business world.

    Jim was converted while at SGC soon after he and his wife Colleen moved to North Carolina in 1993. He has been a member since 1994 and was on staff from 2003 until 2012. He graduated from the Sovereign Grace Pastors College in 2003. He and Colleen have six children.

  • Mike Noel

    Mike Noel

    Pastor, Home Group Leader

    Mike serves as a bi-vocational elder while working as a financial advisor for AXA Advisors. He oversees the Middle School youth group and the prayer team and leads a home group in Cary.  He graduated from Penn State in 1977.  He was active there in campus ministry as well as at Millersville University in Pennsylvania.  He and his wife, Connie, have been a member of the church since its inception in 1992.  They have four married children and thirteen grandchildren.

  • John McLeod

    John McLeod

    Pastor, Administrator, Home Group Leader

    John serves as an elder and as church administrator. He graduated in 1998 from Jacksonville State University with a B.A. in music, and received his M.Div from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2003. He has served in various pastoral ministry contexts since 1996. John currently leads the high school youth group and is also involved in the worship ministry.

    John and his wife, Stacey, have been members of SGC since 2011. They have nine children.

  • Sam Hodges

    Sam Hodges

    Pastor, Home Group Leader

    Sam serves as a bi-vocational elder while working as Executive Producer and Managing Editor for Church Initiative (a non-profit, publishing ministry). In that role he leads Church Initiative’s content development team which produces web and video resources like DivorceCare, GriefShare and CareLeader.org, a pastoral care website. He is also the co-author of the book Grieving With Hope. Sam graduated from Howard University in 1994 with a B.A. in Communications. And he received a M. Div in Christian Education from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1999.

    Sam is married to his wife Rachel. They have four children: Katrina, Sam, Nadia, and Amber.  Sam loves his work, watching movies, talking with friends, rooting for Washington area sports teams, reading, and playing the piano.
