Godly community brings people into the kingdom of God. It's through community that people are sanctified, through community that the world is reached. We are to proclaim the excellencies of Him who called us, and we're to do this as a community.
Regardless of the things of this world, faith deepens, love increases, hope abounds, and the Gospel advances. That is the power of the Gospel and proof that the Gospel is all we need. Thank you, Mark Prater, for an encouraging reminder of the Gospel growth that happens as we love God, love one another, and love our neighbors.
Truth+Love=Growth. If we are going to grow up into Christ, conformed to his image, we need people to lovingly speak truth to us, and we also must lovingly speak that truth to others, rescuing the sinner, rescuing our brother or sister, from futile thinking. It is the truth of who God is, spoken in love, that produces the growth God wants for his children and in the body of Christ as a whole.
The ninth commandment forbids perjury in a courtroom context, but its implications cover our speech in general and, especially, our speaking of others. God wants a people who treasure truth and who also treasure and guard the unity of his church.
