Dorothy Irene Creamer Riefner (1926-2016)

Posted in Family, Life in the Church

On Tuesday night Dot Riefner went to be with her Lord. God mercifully allowed for the family to be present as she went from this world to the next. She had been declining for some time, but for those who have known her, this is a great loss. For years she has added joy, energy, wit, maturity, prayers, worship, and friendship to our church family. It is a gift to know a person converted later in life who made the most of the years that God gave. Here is the obituary the Jones family prepared on her behalf:

Dorothy (Dot) was born March 8, 1926, to Clarence F. and Mae Evelyn Creamer of Baltimore, Md. She graduated from Sparrow's Point High school in 1944 and became an executive secretary to several organizations. She married Bernard B. Riefner, and they had three children (among whom was Dorsey Jones). Dorothy was a world traveler, walked the Appalachian Trail, and threw rocks at grizzly bears to shoo them away. Her family lived in Mexico for two years but always returned to their home in Takoma Park, Maryland. Her soul was saved in 1986 and she later moved to Apex, North Carolina, along with her mom and aunt to live with her daughter's family and to assist in planting what is now Sovereign Grace Church. She loved the folks at SGC and served them with notes and cards, hospitality, and cookies.

She died peacefully on September 13, 2016, in her home with her daughter and son-in-law attending and praying over her. She is survived by her children; Kurt (and wife, Caroline) Riefner of Crownsville, MD; Mark (and Jennifer Camp) Riefner of Annapolis, MD; Dorsey (and husband Ron) Jones of Apex, NC; and grandchildren Hannah (and husband, Jonathan) Reeves and great-grandson, Sam of Fuquay-Varina, NC; Nathan Jones of Apex, NC; and Rebekah (and husband David) Dieffenderfer of Durham, NC.

Funeral services will be held at Sovereign Grace Church of Apex September 20 at 11:00 AM, with visitation September 19 from 6:00-8:00pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Hand of Hope Crisis Pregnancy Center of Fuquay-Varina.

For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. (Phil 1:21-23)
